How to download Instagram content
Everything you actually need to save a reel, video, photo, carousel, story, or highlight from Instagram — on your phone or your computer, in the best quality Instagram makes available. No login, no app to install.
You never share your Instagram password.
Original resolution whenever Instagram provides it.
Public content only
Insta Saver works only with content that's already publicly viewable, or that you own. We don't support downloading from private accounts and won't help bypass anyone's privacy settings — please only save content you're allowed to access.
The process is the same for almost everything on Instagram: copy the link to the post, paste it into Insta Saver, and download. It takes under a minute and works right in your browser. Below we walk through it in detail — including where your files end up, what to do when something doesn't work, and how each type of content (reels, carousels, stories, and more) behaves.
Before you start
There's very little to set up. If you can open Instagram and open this site, you already have everything you need:
- A device with a browser — any phone, tablet, or computer. Insta Saver runs in the browser, so there's nothing to install.
- The link to the content you want to save. We'll cover exactly how to copy it in Step 1.
- A public post, or content you're allowed to access. Anything you can view without logging in works out of the box.
- A little storage space for the file. Videos are larger than photos, but a single reel is typically a few megabytes.
The 4 steps
This is the core workflow. Once you've done it once, it's muscle memory.
Copy the Instagram link
Open Instagram and find the reel, video, photo, or profile you want. Tap the share icon (the paper-plane) below the post, then choose "Copy link". The link is now on your clipboard.
On the app: tap the three-dot menu (⋯) or the share arrow on the post, then Copy link. For a profile picture or a full profile, open the profile and copy its URL instead.
In a browser: click the ⋯ menu on the post and choose Copy link, or just copy the address from your browser's address bar.
Paste it into Insta Saver
Come back to Insta Saver and paste the link into the input box. On most phones you can long-press the box and tap Paste; on a computer use Ctrl + V (or ⌘ + V on a Mac). Insta Saver detects what kind of content the link points to automatically — you don't have to pick a category.
Preview and pick the best option
In a moment you'll see a preview of the content. If more than one option is available, choose the one you want: the highest quality (HD or original) for the best result, a specific item if the post is a carousel with several photos or videos, or the audio only where that's offered.
Download to your device
Press Download. The file saves to your device the same way any other download does — to your Downloads folder on a computer, or to Photos/Gallery or Files on a phone. That's it; the content is now yours to keep offline.
Where your downloads are saved
Where the file lands depends on your device and browser, not on Insta Saver. Here's what to expect:
- iPhone / iPad: Safari saves to the Files app (look under "Downloads"). To move a video or photo into your camera roll, open it in Files and tap Share → Save Image/Video.
- Android: Chrome saves to the Downloads folder, and most gallery apps pick media up automatically. You'll usually also get a notification you can tap to open the file.
- Windows / Mac / Linux: the file goes to your browser's default Downloads folder unless you've set it to ask each time.
Downloading each type of content
The four steps cover everything, but each format has a small nuance worth knowing. If you prefer a dedicated page for one job, the tool links below take you straight there.
| Content | How it works |
|---|---|
| Reels | Paste the reel link to save the video in the best available quality, with its audio. Use the Reels Downloader for a focused flow. |
| Videos | Any feed or in-post video downloads the same way. The Video Downloader is built specifically for this. |
| Photos & carousels | Save a single photo, or open a carousel and pick the exact slides you want. The Photo Downloader handles single images. |
| Stories | Save story media while it's still live — great for archiving your own. Try the Story Downloader. |
| Highlights | Download highlight media from public profiles with the Highlights Downloader. |
| Profile media & DP | Grab posts from a public profile, or just the profile picture in full resolution. |
| Audio | Pull the sound from a reel or video with the Audio Downloader when audio is available. |
Troubleshooting
Most problems come down to the link or the content itself. Run through these before assuming anything's broken:
- "Nothing happens when I paste." Make sure you copied the full link (it should start with instagram.com) and that there's no extra text. Re-copy from the share menu and paste again.
- "It says the content can't be found." The post may be from a private account, or it was deleted. Insta Saver can only reach content that's publicly viewable.
- "The quality looks lower than expected." Instagram sometimes only serves a compressed version. Pick the highest option offered — that's the best it provides.
- "The download won't open on my phone." Check your Files/Downloads app, then move it into your gallery (see the section above). It's saved, just not always where you looked first.
- "A story or highlight won't load." Stories expire after 24 hours. If it's gone from Instagram, it can no longer be fetched.
Tips for the best result
- Always pick the highest quality when several are offered — the difference is obvious on a big screen.
- Any valid Instagram URL works. You don't need to match a link to a specific tool; the home downloader figures it out.
- Save carousels item by item if you only want a couple of the photos, rather than the whole set.
- Bookmark Insta Saver so it's one tap away next time — there's no app to reinstall or update.
Respecting creators and the rules
Downloading is easy, but a saved file still belongs to whoever made it. Save content for personal use — offline viewing, a private archive, reference — and get the creator's permission before you re-post, edit, or use anything commercially. Following both Instagram's terms and basic copyright keeps you, and the creators you admire, on the right side of things.
The short version
- Copy the link, paste it into Insta Saver, choose the best option, download. Four steps, under a minute.
- It works in any browser on any device — no login, no app, no password.
- Every common format is supported: reels, videos, photos, carousels, stories, highlights, profile media, DPs, and audio.
- Files save to your normal Downloads or gallery; save for personal use and respect creators' rights.
